£20,000 raised for the Royal British Legion!

While our annual petal drop of 50,000 poppies and Remembrance Service for the whole community was not able to be held this year, an amazing £20,000 has been raised for the Royal British Legion (RBL) by the Centre’s poppy appeal.

“The response from our incredibly generous Redhill community has been wonderful,” Centre Manager, Andy Nash, says. “With public events banned, and all the challenges and limits put on this year’s Poppy Appeal, made even more difficult by the second national lockdown, it makes this achievement even more remarkable.”

Peter Wakeham, Community Fundraiser for the RBL, East Surrey, says: “I cannot say thank you enough to everyone who helped at the Belfry Poppy Appeal 2020 during these very difficult times.

“A huge thanks to the Belfry for their amazing support, as always, and also to members of the public – £20,000 is just way beyond what I had thought we would make.

“Who knows how long Covid will be with us. But we will again be well-prepared for 2021, the 100thanniversary of the formation of the Royal British Legion.”
